PhD Candidate Amir Keshavarzzadeh has published a proposal for a new approach to the Strait of Hormuz with the University of Cambridge Energy Policy Research Group.

Amir comments: “The world already pays heavily to keep the Strait open through military deployments, higher insurance premiums, and recurring instability. In the proposal, I argue that a transparent service fee, embedded within an inclusive regional framework, could be cheaper, more predictable, and more sustainable than today’s militarised model of “free passage”.
Such an arrangement could also give all key stakeholders a tangible interest in maintaining the security, stability, and openness of one of the world’s most important trade routes.”
