The Refficiency Collective goes to the International Sustainable Production and Consumption ICHEME Conference

Three members of the Refficiency Collective attended the ICHEME Conference on International Sustainable Production and Consumption. The event was held in Manchester on the 4th and 5th of October.

There were three presentations from the group. The first was Harry Michalakakis and with a flash presentation and poster on the exergy of chemical plants and the specific case of ammonia. They both went so well that Harry received the Best Poster Award. The second presentation was Ana González Hernández’s work on exergy for steel-making, presented by Jonathan Cullen. The third presentation was Karla Cervantes Barrón with her work on lighting devices.

The presentations were done at different stages of research, in the case of Ana it was a conclusion on her PhD work after having finished earlier this year, while Harry and Karla were about to start their third year of PhD work. It was a small conference, as it was the first of its kind, but it allowed very interesting academic interactions among the participants. It was also a way to reconnect with the Chemical Engineering community, given that Dr Cullen, Harry and Karla all have degrees on it.
